Wealthbox, Redtail or Orion? What a small RIA should know (October 2026)
Wealthbox and Redtail are CRMs built for financial advisors, and both publish per-user pricing. Orion is a broader wealthtech platform covering portfolio accounting, trading, compliance and planning, owns Redtail, and does not publish pricing. Which fits a small RIA depends on whether you need a CRM alone, a full portfolio and trading platform, or practice software that keeps clients, models, IPS documents, billing and compliance records together. All facts below come from each vendor's own website or dated coverage, checked on 18 October 2026.
Small firms often ask the same question in different words: "Should we be on Wealthbox, Redtail or Orion?" The honest answer is that they don't do the same job. Two are CRMs. One is a broad platform. This page sets out what each says about itself, with sources and dates, so you can compare like with like.
How we checked: every vendor fact below comes from the vendor's own website or dated press coverage, opened on 18 October 2026. Prices and features change, so check the current pages before you decide.

What's new in 2025 and 2026?
- Wealthbox: majority investment from Sixth Street Growth in June 2025 (Kitces, 7 July 2025); AI agents and playbooks announced in early access in March 2026 (Kitces, April 2026).
- Orion: announced a deal for Summit Wealth Systems in December 2024 (Business Wire, 19 December 2024); launched Report Assistant and Query Studio AI in September 2025 (Business Wire, 8 September 2025).
- Redtail: continues as part of Orion; its homepage cites the T3/Inside Information Advisor Software Survey, 2026, for a CRM market-share claim, which we haven't verified.
Which fits a small RIA?
| If you mainly need | Look at |
|---|---|
| A dedicated advisor CRM with broad custodian integrations | Wealthbox or Redtail |
| Archived texting and email archiving alongside the CRM | Redtail lists these on its homepage |
| Portfolio accounting, trading and a TAMP on one platform | Orion |
| Clients, models, IPS documents, billing and compliance records kept together, on top of your custodian | Practice software such as Advorra |
Where Advorra fits, honestly
Advorra is newer practice software, built by The CollabHub alongside a live independent RIA. It keeps clients and households, versioned models with a dated strategy of record, IPS documents that fill from the strategy, quarterly billing in arrears with exclusions, a trade blotter and compliance records in one place. It works from your custodian's account files. If you're on Redtail or Wealthbox now, we'll help you migrate your client data from your CRM export during setup; there isn't a direct live connection yet. It isn't a custodian, doesn't execute trades, and doesn't offer portfolio accounting at Orion's scale or the long integration lists of established CRMs. Pricing is shared on request. See the product page, or read what practice management software is and the Advyzon comparison.
One thing to do this week: list every tool your firm pays for and what each actually does for you, before comparing any of them.

Questions advisors ask
Is Redtail part of Orion?
Yes. Orion acquired Redtail in 2022, according to InvestmentNews. Redtail is listed as part of Orion's advisor technology on Orion's website.
Which publishes its prices?
As of 18 October 2026, Wealthbox and Redtail publish per-user pricing on their websites. Orion does not publish pricing and offers a consultation instead.
Which is the most popular CRM?
Both Redtail and Wealthbox make market-share claims. Redtail's homepage cites the T3/Inside Information Advisor Software Survey for 2026; Kitces commentary from July 2025 described preliminary data with Wealthbox first in adoption. We couldn't verify either survey ourselves, so treat both as vendor-cited.
Does Advorra replace a CRM?
Advorra includes clients, households, member-level suitability, the prospect pipeline and communications, alongside models, IPS, billing and compliance records. Whether it replaces your CRM depends on which CRM features you rely on, such as texting archives.
Is this a recommendation?
No. It is a factual comparison from public sources. Check each vendor's current terms before deciding.
